The Human Nutrition Unit at INRA, Clermont-Ferrand, France is seeking a PhD student to work on the Oxygenate project (2017-2020) funded by the European JPI Healthy Diet for Healthy Life ( The project aims to uncover and validate the oxylipin signatures reflecting the cardiometabolic status and its relationships with diet.

The PhD student will use analytical techniques (liquid and solid phase extraction) and targeted lipidomics based on LC-MS/MS (i) for the optimization and automatization of sample preparation and (ii) for comprehensive oxylipins LC-MS/MS profiling of 400 individuals selected form the French Nutrinet-Santé cohort. More importantly, the PhD student will be in charge of data analysis and interpretation. He/She will use the most up-to-date bioinformatics tools to identify significant feature and oxylipin patterns discriminating the different populations. Data analysis will include various univariate methods (e.g. Students’t test, ANOVA, correlation analysis) and multivariate exploratory data analysis (e.g. PCA, PLS-DA) as well as ROC-curve based biomarker analysis. The PhD student will have close interactions with analysts and biostatisticians from the metabolomics platforms in Toulouse and Clermont-Ferrand (member of the national infrastructure MetaboHub). A key benefit of the PhD program is collaborating with several laboratories within the OXYGENATE consortium notably the University of Wuppertal (Germany), UC Davis (CA, USA) and INSERM (France).

Candidate profile
Master degree in Metabolomics or Biology & Health or Nutrition. Preference will be given to highly motivated candidates with experience/skills in omics data analysis. Knowledge on lipid metabolism and interest in nutrition and health will be appreciated.
