Post-graduate course 2015: “Nutrigenomics studies in humans: from epidemiology to intervention”

Registration is closed

Background Post-graduate courses/workshops have been held on several occasions just prior to NuGOweek offering PhD students an opportunity to attend a training course and a scientific meeting with no additional costs. In 2015 a post-graduate course will be held on: – Saturday 5th September (kick off at the end of the afternoon, introduction, lectures/short practical exercise and informal get together/dinner), – Sunday 6th September (lectures and group work), – Monday 7th September (key note lecture, rounding up  group work, group presentations and discussion). In this course, three modules will highlight progress made with respect to nutrigenomics, research tools and strategies. Each module will contain an assignment in which registered participants will design, present and discuss research questions. Target group PhD students with an interest in nutrigenomics, molecular nutrition and personalized nutrition. Please note that the focus of this postgraduate course will be on human studies. Course aim Attendants of this course will have gained insight in how the use of nutrigenomics approaches in nutrition has advanced our understanding of the relationship between diet and health, compared with more traditional research strategies. Programme topics • Module 1: Biomarkers of efficacy and food intake • Module 2: Diet, genes and health • Module 3: Tools in nutrigenomics research * Keynote lecture: Nutrigenomics studies in humans: from epidemiology to intervention In each module, short introductory lectures will set the scene, after which participants will be asked, in groups (we will create 6 groups of 5-6 participants each), to address a set of research questions for research projects aiming to advance our knowledge and insights in the respective areas, and by doing so to contribute to the European Research Area. Please note that participants can actively propose research questions to address specific research areas during the registration process. Organisation Course coordinators • Dr. Baukje de Roos, University of Aberdeen, UK • Dr. Rafael Llorach, Univ. of Barcelona, Spain • Dr Lorraine Brennan, University College Dublin, Ireland Other faculty Dr. Lydia Afman, Wageningen University, The Netherlands Prof. Cristina Andres-Lacueva, Univ. of Barcelona, Spain Dr. Jim Kaput, Nestle Institute of Health Sciences, Switzerland Dr. Marjukka Kolehmainen, University of Eastern Finland, Finland Prof Anne Marie Minihane, University of East Anglia, UK Prof. John Mathers, University of Newcastle, UK Date & duration The course will be held on Saturday 5th (start at 17.00 hrs), Sunday 6th (10.00 – 14.00 hrs, group work), Monday 7th September (9.30 – 14.00 hrs). Location & accommodation Lectures and group work will be at the Univ. of Barcelona (Faculty of Pharmacy), next to the venue for NuGOweek 2015 (same compound but Faculty of Biology). Participants have to book their accommodation according the instructions given for the participants of NuGOweek 2015 (a block reservation has been made for a limited number of single/double rooms for course participants) Contact information For organisational matters please contact Mrs. Ingeborg van Leeuwen-Bol ([email protected]). The get together/dinner on Saturday, and lunches on Sunday and Monday are covered by the organisers. Registration can be done by sending an email to [email protected], use as subject ‘NuGOweek 2015 post-graduate course’ and mention in which stage of your PhD study you are and who is your supervisor/promotor.
